Wellbeing Wednesday - The benefits of learning languages

18 Jan 2023

Did you know that learning a new language can have a positive impact on one’s mental health?

At Ecole Jacques Prévert, the children enter exciting new territory through the learning of French and English, as well as through the introduction of some exciting language clubs, such as Chinese Club (MS to CP), Spanish Club (CM1 to CM2), French FLSco Club and English Clubs. Naturally embraced by the children, this formative stage of their education provides benefits at many levels: it not only opens their minds to new cultural perspectives and personal accomplishments, it also opens the door to a myriad of future opportunities to travel, study and work.

We encourage our students to open their eyes to the world beyond their own experiences. This notion of respect for cultural differences and openness to the world is inherent in our school values for all students and staff, and part of the AEFE DNA. It is also underlined through our multi-lingual learning environment where French is common to all, and everyone is given the chance to nurture a deeper love of languages. We organise cultural and linguistic events to complement our curriculum throughout the academic year, and on Friday 20th January we are excited to celebrate the Chinese New Year (two days in advance)! To that end, the school and the APEEF Team (the school’s parents association) have worked collaboratively to plan some Chinese and Mandarin activities for every year group. Many thanks to the parents who volunteered to come and lead cultural and linguistic activities with our students. Lunch will also be very special as there will be some typical Chinese treats on offer on the menu for the children to try! The canteen will be specially decorated on this occasion with a display of red paper lanterns, symbols of wealth, fame, and prosperity in China, thanks to Barnabé and his team.

If you wish to know more about the Chinese Club or wish for your child to join, please have a look at https://www.linkchinese.co.uk/about-us/curriculum/ and contact the APEEF Team for further information.

We all look forward to celebrating the Lunar New Year 2023!

Best wishes,
Mrs Weber
